On March 21, the nominee for chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Paul Atkins, will attend the Senate Banking Committee confirmation hearing on March 27. If approved, the full Senate will conduct a final vote. Atkins, a former SEC commissioner and supporter of digital assets, previously founded a financial compliance consulting firm in Washington. He is expected to continue the pro-encryption regulatory stance promoted by the Trump administration, succeeding former SEC chairman Gary Gensler, who faced criticism for his "enforcement-style regulation" of the encryption industry. Also testifying on the same day is the nominee for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Jonathan Gould, whose agency is crucial for regulating access to banks for crypto companies and the issuance of stablecoins. In addition, the Senate will also consider the nomination of Luke Pettit to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury.
