Golden Finance reports that on April 25th, the French National Office for the Fight against Organized Crime (PNACO) announced that since 2023, France has recorded a total of 135 kidnapping or attempted kidnapping cases related to cryptocurrencies.
Data shows that among the 12 cases currently being investigated by PNACO, a total of 88 people have been officially charged, including over 10 minors, and approximately 75 individuals have been detained pending trial.
The prosecution stated that the increase in the number of cases is due to the judicial authorities consolidating multiple scattered cases to respond to the rapid evolution of crime forms related to crypto assets.
Data indicates that there were 18 related cases in 2024, rising to 67 in 2025, and reaching 47 cases so far in 2026.
PNACO pointed out that this crime trend is closely related to the increased use of crypto assets and has become one of the important new forms of organized crime.
