U.S. regulators have clarified the legal status of sports fan tokens, classifying them as "digital collectibles and utilities" rather than securities. This joint guidance from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) removes a major legal barrier, allowing U.S. sports teams to issue tokens and major exchanges to trade them without concerns about regulatory action. Following the announcement, the Chiliz (CHZ) token, which underlies many sports fan tokens, traded near $0.385, up more than 4% in recent weeks and currently testing a key resistance level.
