Residents in rural Texas continue to push for the management of Bitcoin mining activities.

Residents of Hood County (Texas) are struggling to gain control of the Bitcoin mining facility of Marathon Digital Holdings, which has been operating for nearly three years in the Mitchell Bend area. They argue that the constant industrial noise has caused insomnia, hearing damage, and diminished property values.

A proposal to consolidate Mitchell Bend into a town to enact mining regulations was rejected due to insufficient registered voters, with less than 50. Residents submitted a second petition before the 8/18 deadline in hopes of getting it on the November ballot. If they continue to fail, they have stated they are prepared to sue, including in the state supreme court.

At the same time, many citizens and environmental organizations have sued Marathon for health and environmental damage. If successful, Mitchell Bend will have the authority to issue its own regulations, reflecting the growing wave of opposition to cryptocurrency mining in Texas.
