The President of Madagascar stated that there are people attempting to "illegally seize power by force" in the country.
Jin10 reported on October 12 that Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina issued a statement saying, “There are attempts to seize power on the territory of the republic, which completely violates the constitution and democratic principles.” On October 11, some soldiers joined the large-scale protests. Some of the mutinous soldiers announced that they would control all military forces in the country. On the same day, Prime Minister Zafisambo called for dialogue between the government and all parties to strengthen unity. Large-scale protests triggered by long-term water and electricity shortages erupted in Madagascar starting September 25. On September 29, Rajoelina dissolved the government, and Prime Minister Christian Ntsay was dismissed. On October 6, Rajoelina appointed Army General Lufin Fortina Zafisambo as Prime Minister.
