Scroll Co-founder Haichen Talks About Mainnet Launch and Ecosystem Development

After more than two years of development and one year of testing, the Scroll Mainnet officially launched in October 2023. As a Layer2 solution focused on Ethereum scaling, Scroll has been receiving significant attention. Within a week of its launch, the total value locked on the Scroll chain exceeded $19.3 million, with the number of wallet addresses surpassing 147,000 and an average daily transaction volume approaching 80,000.

During the ETH Hong Kong event held in Hong Kong, Scroll co-founder Haichen was interviewed and shared his views on the development of Scroll.

Exclusive Interview with Scroll Co-founder Haichen: The launch of the Mainnet is a new beginning, focusing more on real-world applications in the ecosystem

Haichen stated that the launch of the Mainnet is an important milestone for Scroll and marks a new beginning. Users can now bridge assets from Ethereum to Scroll and use various applications. In the future, Scroll will also launch more features to further enhance security, reduce costs, and provide developers with more tools.

When talking about why to choose the zkEVM solution, Haichen emphasized the advantages of zk technology in terms of security and user experience. He believes that EVM equivalence is very important as it allows developers to migrate tools from Ethereum to Scroll directly without modification, avoiding the introduction of potential issues.

In terms of technical implementation, Scroll strives for high compatibility with the Ethereum EVM. They have developed corresponding zk circuit components for each EVM instruction and support the maximum number of precompiled contracts. Scroll's sequencer is also based on the popular Go-Ethereum implementation, ensuring robust compatibility.

For ecological development, Scroll is currently focusing on improving infrastructure, such as RPC, indexing services, etc. More DeFi applications will be deployed online soon. Haichen stated that Scroll hopes to build an open and neutral platform that treats all developers equally. They will pay special attention to real-world applications, such as stablecoin payments and AA wallet projects, and will also support public goods projects that benefit the entire ecosystem.

Haichen believes that the entire Layer 2 ecosystem is still in its infancy and that there is a need to further enhance the degree of decentralization and improve security in the future. He is confident that the Layer 2 market is not a zero-sum game, but rather a field with significant growth potential. Scroll will continue to work hard to contribute to Ethereum's scalability and the development of the Web3 ecosystem.
