愛爾蘭警方近日公布，成功破解了與一名被定罪的毒販有關的 12 個比特幣錢包中的一個。這批比特幣錢包先前被認為是「無法存取」，如今，愛爾蘭警方成功破解，並扣押其中 500 枚比特幣。據悉，這批資產屬犯罪所得，案件涉及已被定罪的愛爾蘭毒販 Clifton Collins 。若按撰文時比特幣即時價格每枚 71,254.13 美元計算，這 500 枚比特幣市值超過 3,560 萬美元。愛爾蘭刑事資產局（Criminal Assets Bureau，CAB）表示，在 Europol 歐洲網路犯罪中心（European Cybercrime Centre）協助下，成功取得該錢包控制權。警方聲明指出，Europol 曾在荷蘭海牙總部主持行動會議，並向調查人員與分析師提供「高度複雜的技術專業與解密資源」，成為這次行動成功的關鍵。 「重見天日」的可能不只是 500 枚比特幣 援引愛爾蘭《Irish Times》報道指，這 12 個錢包合計持有 6,000 枚比特幣，2019 年遭查扣時估值約 5,300 萬歐元，但因私鑰遺失，當局多年來始終無法動用。案中主角 Clifton Collins 曾因種植並販賣大麻而被判監五年。 Collins 在 2011 至 2012 年間用販毒所得購入約 6,000 枚比特幣，並分散存放於 12 個錢包內。他把私鑰印在一張 A4 紙上，再藏入一個釣魚竿盒的鋁製蓋子中，但在他入獄後，房東清空了他的出租屋，丟棄了他的個人物品，且已被焚燒處理。相關私鑰遺失，令警方即使扣押了錢包，在過去數年仍一度無法查獲相關資產。
