Tổng thống Mỹ Donald Trump cho biết ông sẽ xem xét vụ án của Keonne Rodriguez, nhà phát triển Samourai Wallet đã bị kết án, đồng thời để ngỏ khả năng ân xá. Phát biểu tại Nhà Trắng, Trump nói ông đã nghe về vụ việc và sẽ “xem xét các tình tiết” dù hiện chưa nắm rõ chi tiết.

Rodriguez và đồng sáng lập William Lonergan Hill bị tuyên án lần lượt 5 năm và 4 năm tù vào ngày 19/11 vì liên quan đến việc vận hành giao thức trộn tiền điện tử Samourai Wallet. Cộng đồng ủng hộ quyền riêng tư và người dùng tiền điện tử cho rằng họ không nên chịu trách nhiệm về hành vi của bên thứ ba sử dụng phần mềm.

Rodriguez cho biết làn sóng kêu gọi ân xá đang phát huy tác dụng và tin rằng Trump có thể thấu hiểu vụ việc. Ông thừa nhận khả năng kháng cáo gần như không còn do đã chấp nhận thỏa thuận nhận tội, nhằm tránh nguy cơ đối mặt án tù lên tới 25 năm.
