YouTube's New Policy: Blockchain and NFT Content Creators May Face Video Deletion, Official Warning Will Be Retroactive
YouTube recently updated its policies, expanding enforcement to videos that include digital goods, game skins, and NFTs in the online gambling section. This policy will also apply retroactively to existing videos. The official reminder for creators is to make necessary edits using the built-in video editor before November 17, as videos after the deadline may be deleted or age-restricted. @EditsBySpace stated that it is still unclear how strict the enforcement will be, but directly promoting any digital assets with monetary value may also be prohibited.
YouTube's new announcement: Expanding enforcement to video game skins and NFTs
YouTube's official announcement states that the platform's current regulations already prohibit directing users to unverified online gambling sites that are not certified by Google. The new policy will expand the enforcement scope to include online gambling content involving items of monetary value (, including digital goods such as video game skins, cosmetics, and NFT). For example, if a creator showcases segments in their video where they open blind boxes to obtain rare equipment through NFTs or exchange game skins for cryptocurrency tokens, the YouTube system may classify this as online gambling activity.
The law enforcement action appears to be retroactive, with officials stating that existing videos uploaded before November 17, 2025, can be edited using video editing software or blurring tools for necessary modifications before that date. If these guidelines are violated, the content may be deleted or age-restricted, but it will not receive a violation record. Age-restricted videos can remain on the channel for viewers aged 18 and over.
Millions of plays for editors: It is unclear how strict the enforcement will be, and it may extend to any digital assets.
Video editor @EditsBySpace, whose clips have accumulated over 26 million views, stated on Twitter: “YouTube has just changed its rules, which will directly affect blockchain, NFT, and Web3 gaming content on YouTube and Google platforms. YouTube will now include online gambling involving digital goods with monetary value in its gambling policy, which includes NFTs, tokens, skins, and in-game items that can be bought or traded for any monetary value or real currency.”
He emphasized that if your video depicts, promotes, or facilitates gameplay where players can win, lose, bet, or wager on assets of real value, it is now considered gambling content and is expected to face removal, warnings, or age restrictions.
But specifically, the impact may go far beyond this. @EditsBySpace explains that it may still be possible to publish content related to NFTs or cryptocurrencies, including educational or commentary videos. However, it is still unclear how stringent the enforcement will be. Directly promoting any digital assets with monetary value, such as NFT releases or sponsored videos related to CS skin websites, is likely to be prohibited.
Tutorials showcasing coin minting, wallet connections, or the purchase of tokens linked to assets with monetary value may be flagged. Promoting GameFi ( token-based games ), drops, or sponsored content in the market may violate advertising and gambling regulations. In short, only discussing gameplay is generally safe, but any videos that appear to be about staking, earning, or withdrawing are high-risk activities. Sponsored NFT and token videos may be removed or flagged as adult content.
