Trump: Any tariff agreement will be reached after the measures take effect on April 2.

On March 29, local time March 28, U.S. President Trump plans to announce new tariffs in the coming days. He expressed a somewhat open attitude towards reaching tariff agreements with other countries but hinted that any agreements would be made after the tariff measures take effect on April 2. During an interview with reporters on "Air Force One" heading to Florida, Trump was asked if he would be willing to discuss reaching a drop in tariffs on U.S. goods with countries like the UK. He said, "If we can get something out of this deal, it’s possible—but you know, we’ve been taken advantage of for 40 years, or even longer. That’s not going to happen anymore. But yes, I certainly would be willing to." When asked if this would happen before the announcement of tariffs on April 2, he replied, "No. It’s likely to happen later." Trump also reiterated plans to announce drug tariffs but refused to disclose the specific rates.
