Can WhatsApp facilitate cross-border transfers? Sati has completed a $600,000 pre-seed funding round, with investors including Mexico's third richest person.
Recently, Mexican payment tool service provider Sati announced the completion of a $600,000 Pre seed round financing. The company has established stablecoin and Bitcoin payment methods on WhatsApp. Investors include BOOST VC, Draper Associates, Arcanum Capital, Tim Draper, and Don Ricardo Salinas Pliego. Among them, Arcanum Capital is a Tether investment subsidiary, Tim Draper is a well-known investor, and Don Ricardo Salinas Pliego is the third richest man in Mexico, who announced in 2020 that 10% of his liquid investment portfolio would be in Bitcoin.
Sati aims to popularize in Latin America through WhatsApp
Sati is a cryptocurrency payment system built on the WhatsApp platform, integrating instant messaging and blockchain technology to provide users with a fast, secure, and low-cost cross-border payment solution. This innovation not only redefines the convenience of mobile payments but also brings new possibilities for financial inclusion in emerging markets such as Latin America.
The core concept of Sati is to leverage WhatsApp's vast user base and the familiar, easy-to-use interface for the masses. As of 2025, over 2 billion people worldwide use WhatsApp each month. Integrating cryptocurrency payments into daily communication means users do not need to download additional applications, allowing them to easily send and receive cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin through WhatsApp's chat interface.
Currently, Sati has not detailed what technology is used to reduce the high costs and shorten the time of Bitcoin transactions. Mainstream practices often use methods such as the Bitcoin Lightning Network and CKB.
WhatsApp has a penetration rate of over 90% in mainstream markets in Latin America.
Sati's primary target market is Latin America, where traditional banking services are lacking and financial infrastructure still lags behind developed countries. However, the penetration rate of smartphones and WhatsApp is extremely high. According to statistics, about 92% of the population in major markets in Latin America uses WhatsApp as their primary communication tool. In several large countries, including Brazil and Chile, the penetration rate even exceeds 93%.
Migrants working in Argentina can use Sati to send money directly to their families in Colombia on WhatsApp without having to go through banks or pay high intermediary fees. This not only saves costs, but also shortens the time it takes for funds to arrive, from days to almost instantaneous.
Users only need to enable Sati's service in WhatsApp, bind their personal cryptocurrency wallet, and start using it. The platform also provides simple command operations, such as entering "/send 0.001 BTC" to complete the payment, lowering the technical barrier to entry and making it easy for even people who are new to cryptocurrencies to get started. The Sati team also said that their API service can basically port tools to Telegram, LINE and other messaging software.
