[A South Korean man faces 10 years in prison for stabbing Haru Invest CEO during fraud trial] The South Korean prosecutors have requested the court to impose a 10-year prison sentence on a man who stabbed the CEO of the South Korean Crypto Assets custody company HaruInvest during a court hearing in August 2024. The Southern Seoul District Prosecutor's Office confirmed to The Block that they made the sentencing request during the final hearing of the courtroom attack case on Wednesday, considering the severity of the crime. The attacker, 51, stabbed Haru Invest's chief executive, Lee Hyung-so, in the neck several times with a fruit knife. Lee was rushed to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening. This incident occurred during Lee Kyung-soo's court appearance due to multiple fraud-related charges. According to prosecutors, from March 2020 to June 2023, Haru Invest attracted approximately 16,000 domestic and foreign investors by promising to return the principal and pay interest of up to 16%, even though the company had been in a capital impairment state since 2019. On June 13, 2023, Haru Invest suddenly suspended deposits and withdrawals, and declared bankruptcy last November.
