Abstract generation in progress

SEGA's Code Of Joker game series will land on the game-centric L1 blockchain Sui. Sega has licensed the intellectual property to a third-party company, Jokers, Inc., which is developing an upcoming game.

The new game, based on the Japanese anime-style arcade IP, is called Code of Joker: Evolutions. Players will be able to open card packs and collect cards on-chain as Sui NFTs.

Although Sega's most famous character, Sonic the Hedgehog, appeared in the Code of Joker game, it seems unlikely that Sonic will appear in Code of Joker: Evolutions at this time.

Two years ago, Sega's chief operating officer, Shuji Utsumi, said that Sega would not license its largest IP to third-party blockchain games or develop its own in-house crypto games. However, Sega is apparently still willing to license some other game brands.

Two years ago, Sega licensed the "Three Kingdoms" brand to Oasys, a third-party blockchain military card battle game developed by Double Jump Tokyo. The game is expected to be released on March 25. The game contains NFT cards and stakes the game's SGC tokens on its website, but in the description of the app store, there is no explicit mention of the crypto element of the game.

Code of Joker game background and market outlook

Code of Joker is an arcade game released in 2013. Due to its age, it is difficult to find detailed information about the game on the Internet. According to messages on its website and X account, the Code of Joker Pocket mobile game was discontinued back in 2018.

Still, the character styles of Code of Joker: Evolutions are appealing to players who like anime styles, and longtime fans of the game may be excited about the new developments in the series.

Regarding whether the game will be released in English, the team said it will announce more details. If the game is only available in Japanese, it may limit its appeal in the wider market.

The Asian market has an important position in the Web3 space. According to Grandview Research, 50% of the world's mobile game revenue in 2023 came from the Asia-Pacific region, with more than 1.5 billion mobile gamers. Tiger Research also noted that recent governance frameworks in countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia have laid the groundwork for blockchain development. Sony's Soneium has also joined the fray, with the company recently announcing four games with Line.

Details of Code of Joker: Evolutions are still to be released, and the game is expected to be available on iOS, Android, and the web by the end of this summer.
