NAIROBI (CoinChapter.com)— The long-running XRP lawsuit between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple may be nearing a crucial turning point. Attorney Fred Rispoli has identified April 16, 2025, as a key deadline that could bring major developments in the case.

Rispoli’s comments, shared on X, suggest that while no formal requirement dictates a resolution by this date, it is “reasonable to speculate” that the lawsuit will see progress before Ripple’s appellate brief deadline.

XRP Lawsuit Drags On, but a Deadline Emerges

The SEC vs. Ripple case has stretched for years, with the crypto community eagerly awaiting a conclusion. The regulator accuses Ripple of illegally selling XRP as an unregistered security, while Ripple maintains that XRP should not fall under securities laws.

Recent dismissals of other crypto lawsuits have fueled speculation that the SEC may seek a settlement. Rispoli, in his latest post, emphasized that April 16, 2025, is a critical point, stating,

“Let’s keep an eye on it… and hope.”

The XRP community responded with a mix of optimism and skepticism. One user joked, “If nothing happens in April. Something will happen in May. If nothing happens in May. June is the month. And if not. July for sure.” Rispoli replied playfully, “Surely you won’t deny August as the month?!?”

Despite the lighthearted exchange, Rispoli’s statement suggests that an outcome—whether a settlement, dismissal, or another major event—could occur before the appellate brief deadline.

Legal Experts Remain Divided on Timing

Legal analysts remain divided on when the lawsuit will end. Attorney Jeremy Hogan and legal expert MetaLawMan have cautioned that unresolved issues, including Judge Analisa Torres’ injunction and Ripple’s $125 million penalty, could prolong the case.

MetaLawMan, however, echoed Rispoli’s stance, speculating that a resolution could arrive before April 16. The SEC could choose to withdraw its appeal in March, allowing the case to progress toward settlement.

Ripple’s legal strategy remains uncertain. Some suggest both parties could release a generic statement confirming an agreement, but Rispoli dismissed this as unlikely.

Ripple vs. SEC: The Endgame Approaches?

The SEC has faced a series of setbacks in crypto-related lawsuits, adding to speculation that it may seek to close the Ripple case rather than continue a drawn-out legal battle.

While Rispoli has not explicitly claimed that a settlement is imminent, his focus on April 16 suggests that major developments could take place before then. Whether this will mark the final chapter in the XRP lawsuit remains to be seen.
