The United States and Ukraine signed a natural resource development protocol.
On Wednesday, the United States and Ukraine reached an agreement on access to Ukraine's natural resources, according to people familiar with the matter, in an effort to enlist the support of U.S. President Donald Trump in ceasefire talks with Russia. The agreement will allow the United States privileges in new investment projects to develop Ukraine's natural resources, including aluminum, graphite, oil and gas. This is seen as the key to cultivating Trump's goodwill towards Kyiv as the United States pushes for an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has lasted for 3 years. Earlier Wednesday, Trump said at a cabinet meeting at the White House: "We have an agreement that our money is safe and we can start digging and doing what we have to do." "It's good for them as well, because you're going to have an American presence, and an American presence is going to keep a lot of the 'bad guys' out of the country, or away from the areas that we're digging into."
