Bloomberg reported that U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent believes that the Federal Reserve (Fed) should consider lowering interest rates by 50 basis points at the meeting on September 16–17, based on adjusted data showing that job growth in May and June was weaker than initially reported.

He also expressed hope that the candidate Stephen Miran nominated by President Donald Trump to the Fed Board will be confirmed before this time.
