Earth Day is getting longer by 1.33 milliseconds every century due to melting ice in Greenland and Antarctica, surpassing the Moon's gravitational pull.
The redistribution of mass caused by melting ice slows down Earth's rotation and shifts its axis. If greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, melting ice will become the main force affecting the length of the day by 2100.
