Who is the American teacher Cole Tomas Allen who assassinated Trump? X is spreading shocking prophecies and an eerie killer-game setup

A major shooting incident took place during a White House Correspondents’ Association dinner hosted by U.S. President Trump at the Hilton Hotel. The shooter’s background and past remarks were dug up by netizens, including statements made by the suspect Alan (Cole Thomas Allen) on the left-leaning community platform Bluesky. On X, the well-known influencer @MarioNawfal (Mario Nawfal) pointed out that this was a “time-travel conspiracy theory,” while the hacker Peter Girnus pulled up all of his previous background, arguing that he carefully planned this whole “game,” and that you and I—as well as the general public—are all among the roles he manipulated. So what exactly is going on here?

Social media accounts are set by default to go viral in the future

After the shooting, an X dormant account named “Henry Martinez” @HenryMa79561893 suddenly became the focus. The account was created in December 2023 and had only posted one entry containing the suspect’s name Cole Allen, before going silent for 868 days. On X, the self-described hacker @gothburz (Peter Girnus) analyzed that this kind of carefully designed strategy works by precisely triggering the spread of internet algorithms at specific moments through pre-seeded keywords and a Pepe frog profile picture with meme elements. This is not a real prophecy of the future; rather, it exploits social media users’ preference for mystery and the illusion of “time travel,” manipulating digital influence after death or after the incident, so that the suspect’s name racks up tens of millions of views in an extremely short time.

Who is Trump’s assassination suspect, Cole Thomas Allen?

Cole Thomas Allen, 31 years old, holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Caltech. He previously served as a summer researcher at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). According to information dug up from the X account @BrianRoemmele (Brian Roemmele), in the co-author list of a JPL research paper from 2014, both the names Cole Allen and Henry Martinez appeared. The discovery was quickly linked by online communities to the aforementioned social media account, in an attempt to piece together his motive and the trail of his premeditation. In addition, Allen had been an education-institution tutor and an independent game developer. His game work “Bohrdom” emphasizes non-violence and skill, which strongly contrasts with the violent remarks he posted on his Bluesky account and the armed actions he ultimately carried out.

Did netizens’ frantic conspiracy-hunting help the killer achieve his goal of getting famous?

On X, more than 300,000 netizens turned into “Conan” to participate in the online investigation. However, it was also packed with all kinds of conspiracy theories. The abstract digital art on the account’s Banner just happens to match an artwork on a website called Time Machine. “Perspective” allegedly reveals a hidden image of Trump being assassinated inside it, and then people interpreted the Pepe frog post as a time machine predicting the future, drew connections between the tailcoat the Pepe frog wore and the tailcoat worn at Trump’s dinner, and all sorts of “conspiracy theories” emerged to attract clicks and views—showing that before the public had clarified the facts, they had already fallen into the killer’s carefully pre-set “game.”

Compared with the near-instantaneous data cross-checking done in the online world, the suspect’s 50-hour mental journey traveling from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. by train was hardly discussed at all on social media. Peter Girnus believes that reality has been covered up by an online narrative. The crowd poured huge amounts of time into analyzing social media posts and digital footprints, highlighting just how absurd “digital manipulation” is. And if the investigation results confirm that Cole Allen laid the groundwork three years ago in order to play this game, that would be even more chilling: how could such a villain full of mind-manipulation keep his identity hidden for so long—so long that he even really managed to complete his mission?
