Trump's attitude towards betting on "Maduro's arrest" and U.S. soldiers' stance appears to be shifting, with some allies supporting a pardon for him.
Deep Tide TechFlow news: On April 26, according to CNN, the U.S. Department of Justice has charged a U.S. military special forces soldier, Gannon Ken Van Dyke, accusing him of using classified intelligence to place bets on the prediction market platform Polymarket, illegally profiting more than $400,000 from the U.S. raid on Venezuela.
However, Trump appears to have shifted his stance on the matter. After learning that the soldier bet on Maduro’s fall, Trump immediately compared the situation to baseball great Rose (Pete Rose) placing a bet that his own team would win. His response seemed offhand and said, “It’s like Rose betting on his team to win. If he bet on himself losing, that would be bad, but he bet on himself winning, and I will investigate this.” In addition, given Trump’s support for Rose, at least several of Trump’s allies have already said that Trump should pardon the soldier.
Earlier, when discussing betting related to war-related events, Trump said the current global situation “is a bit like a casino,” suggesting that some market transactions may have already deviated from normal investment logic and instead rely on information asymmetry, or even insider information. He also emphasized that he has “never been a firm supporter of these prediction platforms.”
