Trump’s Final Deadline—Global Financial Markets’ 24-Hour Countdown of Panic
On April 6th, U.S. time, Trump said at a White House press conference that whether the conflict with Iran is about to escalate or is nearing an end depends on Iran’s response by 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on April 7th (8:00 a.m. Beijing Time on April 8th) to the “final deadline” he set. Whether it is war or peace between the U.S. and Iran hinges on the arrival of that point in time, and global financial markets have officially entered a 24-hour countdown of panic that will determine the fate of both long and short sides.
Latest statements from the U.S. and Iran
【U.S.】Trump said that a deal must be reached before the final deadline on April 7th that he can accept; otherwise, he will destroy Iran’s bridges and power plants. He said, “A plan has already been devised.” Once it is activated, “every bridge inside Iran will be completely destroyed, and every power plant inside Iran will be completely incapacitated.” He also said that if the United States is willing, “the entire destruction process will only take four short hours.” However, he claimed that he “does not want this to happen.” In addition, Trump also claimed that negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are “progressing very smoothly.”
【Iran】That day, Iran responded to the U.S. proposal to end the war. This response includes 10 provisions, covering a range of Iran’s demands, including ending regional conflicts, drafting a safe passage agreement for the Strait of Hormuz, carrying out reconstruction, and lifting sanctions. Iran ruled out the possibility of a temporary ceasefire and emphasized that the conflict must be ended permanently.
A U.S. official familiar with the matter said that the U.S. and regional mediators are pushing a 45-day ceasefire agreement with the aim of bringing the war between the U.S. and Iran to a complete end, but at present the likelihood of reaching an agreement “still looks slim.”
Global financial market performance and outlook
Oil market:
The oil market surged strongly. WTI crude’s latest close was $116.32, getting closer and closer to Xiaocaishen’s take-profit level of $118–$120. Before there is a final outcome on whether a ceasefire agreement is reached, the strong rally in crude oil may be signaling something; in the short term, it still looks bullish.
On the news front, a risk premium for passage through the Strait of Hormuz has continued to exist. Although it has not been actually interrupted, Iran’s “closure threat” keeps the market pricing the risk of shipping disruptions. Expectations for OPEC+ to increase production have been offset. The current issue is not how much production there is, but whether the post-production output can be transported out. Oil shipping insurance and escort costs have skyrocketed.
Gold and silver markets:
After gold briefly plunged earlier this morning, it rebounded somewhat, showing a pressured and choppy pattern, with narrow fluctuations around $4,659 per ounce (Bloomberg). Compared with before the event, it is down slightly by 0.35%, and it has not broken through the key resistance at $4,700. If the ceasefire negotiations cannot result in an agreement, gold and silver would very likely plunge again, and in the short term the outlook remains bearish.
Stock market:
As a bellwether for global equities, Asia-Pacific stock market performance generally tends to reflect the market’s sentiment direction in advance. This morning, stock markets in China, South Korea, and Japan all opened higher but then fell, and the big A index turned back to green—indicating that risk-hedging sentiment is rising, and some funds may have “been ahead of the curve” and pulled out. Before a U.S.-Iran ceasefire result is announced, the stock market is not considered optimistic. If by tomorrow morning the two sides still fail to reach an agreement, the market could drop sharply at the open. It may be possible to consider buying the dip and watch whether the market shows a rebound trend of “bad news fully priced in.”
Crypto market:
Bitcoin has been choppy and trending lower from last night through this morning. Around midday it rebounded slightly. As with the gold and silver markets, if the ceasefire negotiations cannot produce an agreement, the price action will very likely continue to plunge. In the short term, it is bearish. From this perspective, has Bitcoin finally realized the “digital gold” narrative?

Trump's Deadline—A 24-Hour Countdown of Global Financial Markets' Heart-Stopping Tension

On April 6th, U.S. time, President Trump stated at a White House press conference that whether the conflict with Iran will escalate or near resolution depends on Iran's response to the "final deadline" set by the United States, which is 8 p.m. Eastern Time on April 7th (8 a.m. Beijing Time on April 8th). The fate of the U.S.-Iran situation—war or peace—hinges on this moment, and the global financial markets have officially entered a nerve-wracking 24-hour countdown that will determine the fate of both bulls and bears.

Latest Statements from the U.S. and Iran

【U.S.】Trump said that a deal acceptable to him must be reached before the April 7th deadline, or he will destroy Iran’s bridges and power plants. He stated, “A plan has been devised,” and once activated, “every bridge within Iran will be thoroughly destroyed, and every power plant will be completely paralyzed.” He also claimed that if the U.S. wishes, “the entire destruction process will only take four hours.” However, he emphasized that “we do not want this to happen.” Additionally, Trump claimed that negotiations with Iran are “progressing smoothly.”

【Iran】On the same day, Iran responded to the U.S. proposal to end the war. The response included 10 terms, covering Iran’s demands such as ending regional conflicts, establishing a security transit agreement for the Strait of Hormuz, reconstruction efforts, and lifting sanctions.
