Iranian official proposes conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz: first compensate Iran's war losses with past shipping taxes.
ME News message, April 6 (UTC+8). Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy director for press and communications at the Iranian presidential palace, made a harsh statement on April 5 regarding the regional situation and the issue of passage through the Strait of Hormuz. On social media, Tabatabaei launched a fierce attack on U.S. President Trump and his policies, accusing him of resorting to insults out of “desperation and anger,” and saying that his reckless actions have sparked a full-scale war within the region. Regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz, Tabatabaei said that the Strait of Hormuz will only be fully reopened after a new legal framework is established and Iran’s losses in past wars are fully compensated for using revenue from past ship taxes.
