Toyota's comprehensive strategy: the resolve to retain internal combustion engines
On December 5, 2025, at the technology verification city “Woven City” in Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, Toyota showcased its determination.
Toyota has released three ultra-luxury sports cars that are set to go on sale. The “GR GT,” slated to be launched around 2027, will be the first mass-market vehicle to be equipped with a 4-liter V8 engine.
The engine displacement of the hybrid vehicle (HV) “Prius” is 1.8 to 2.0 liters. Against the backdrop of increasingly stringent environmental regulations, the car instead introduces a large-displacement engine. As a mass-market vehicle, it will achieve world-class standards and is positioned as the pinnacle of sports cars.
