Just realized a lot of people struggle with updating their SASSA details, so figured I'd share what I learned. Basically, if you're getting permanent grants (old age, disability, child grants), you can't just change your banking details online like you might think. You've got to actually go to your nearest SASSA office in person and fill out the Payment Method Change Form. Bring your ID, both original and a copy, plus proof of your new bank account - they want a bank statement from the last three months or an official letter from the bank. One thing they're strict about: the account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts or anything like that. Once you submit it, they send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 working days. So if you want the change to happen for next month's payment, you need to get it done before the 15th. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another month. Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's actually different - the whole process is online through the SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS to your current number, and then you can input your new banking details through that link. Same rule applies though: account has to be in your name. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify. For your cellphone number, if you're on permanent grants, you can call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office. For SRD, there's a dedicated contact portal where you enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, and they send you an OTP to confirm. Just be careful with scams - use only the official SASSA website, never trust random third-party sites claiming they can change your details for you. And yeah, if the online stuff isn't working, honestly just call them or go in person. Takes longer but it's the safest way to make sure your banking details actually get updated without any issues.
