Just had to sort out my SASSA details recently and realized a lot of people don't know how different the process is depending on which grant you're on. If you're getting a permanent grant like old age or disability, changing your banking info or doing a SASSA number change basically means you have to go in person to your local office - no shortcuts through the app or online. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (statement not older than three months works), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Takes about three weeks for the bank to verify everything, so if you want it sorted by next month's payment, get it done before the 15th.
Now if you're on the SRD grant, it's completely different - everything's online which is actually way easier. You go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they SMS you a secure link. Click it, put in your new bank details, and you're done. Same thing with updating your cellphone number - you can do it through their contact portal if you have your Application ID, or just call their helpline if you get stuck. They'll send you an OTP to verify the change.
One thing I learned the hard way: the account has to be in your name only. No joint accounts, no using someone else's bank details. And if you're doing a SASSA number change because you lost your phone or something, just make sure whatever new number you register is actually registered in your name with your provider - they check that stuff. Honestly the SRD process is straightforward if you stick to the official portal, but definitely avoid any random websites claiming they can help you change your details. Just use the real SASSA link or call 0800 60 10 11 if you're not sure what you're doing.
