Retest: a fundamental skill for proper entry into a position
Every experienced trader knows that the entry point determines the success of a trade. A retest is exactly the tool that helps you find optimal entry points. When the price breaks through an important level and then pulls back to the same level, it creates the most favorable scenario for opening a position. This approach requires patience but rewards you with a higher probability of success.
Why is a retest so critical for traders?
A retest is a repeated return of the price to a broken level. At this level, a large amount of supply concentrates, exerting constant influence on the price behavior. Ignoring such a level is incorrect. When the price approaches it again after a breakout, it creates a powerful magnet that attracts the attention of professional market participants. It is at these moments that the most reliable trading signals are formed.
How to correctly recognize a retest at a level?
The retest mechanism is simple but effective. The price moves upward, breaks resistance, then reverses and returns again. This demonstrates the presence of significant supply at this level. Each such level works regardless of the time frame: five-minute chart, hourly, or daily—the principle remains the same. Key zones serve as universal centers of attraction for the price, regardless of the scale of trading.
Retests appear on all timeframes and patterns
The universality of retests is its main advantage. There is no price figure or formation that does not feature this principle. Whether it’s classic patterns or complex structures, retests are always present. This means that the skill of recognizing a retest applies in all market conditions and on any time intervals. Traders who master this skill gain a significant advantage over those who only enter on breakouts without confirmation.
Retest as a school of patience and discipline
Learning through waiting for a retest brings two of the most valuable traits to your trading: patience and discipline. Instead of impulsively entering a position on a breakout, you gain the opportunity to wait for a more favorable scenario. This requires restraint, but the result justifies the time spent. Although trading on breakouts also has its right to exist, the retest strategy teaches you to choose entries with the highest probability of development in your favor. This methodical approach transforms a trader into a professional with a sustainable trading advantage.
