The Mexican government confirmed that Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, the leader of the “New Generation Jalisco” drug cartel, was injured and killed during a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco. Following the operation, several states in Mexico experienced violence such as road blockades and vehicle burnings initiated by drug cartels. The Mexican government stated in a release that the operation was coordinated jointly by the Mexican Ministry of National Defense, the National Intelligence Center, and the Attorney General’s Office, involving special forces from the Mexican Air Force and the National Guard. The Mexican Ministry of Public Security reported that no casualties occurred among the security forces involved. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that a press conference with the security cabinet would be held later. He also stated that most parts of Mexico are in normal condition and that he is coordinating with state governors, urging the public to remain calm. (CCTV News)
