Egypt blocks Roblox in new online child protection move

According to official Egyptian sources, the decision responds to specific concerns regarding children’s exposure to harmful materials available on the platform. An Egyptian senator publicly emphasized the need for stricter regulation to preserve the ethical and educational values of the youth, indicating that the measure aligns with a broader effort to safeguard the digital environment.

Regional Trend in the Middle East Against Risky Content

Egypt is not alone in this regulatory action. The Middle East has been intensifying control over digital platforms that pose risks to children. Qatar and Turkey have already implemented similar blocks on Roblox in previous periods, demonstrating a consolidated regional trend among governments to prioritize the protection of minors in the virtual space.

Roblox’s Previous Response to Cybersecurity Concerns

The company did not implement this restriction without prior warning. Last year, Roblox announced the implementation of limited features specifically for the Middle East, aiming to mitigate cybersecurity concerns.
