Ministry of Commerce: Will deepen the reform of the foreign investment promotion system and mechanism, and accelerate the creation of new advantages in attracting foreign investment

On February 5th, the Ministry of Commerce held a routine press conference. A reporter asked, “By early 2026, several national leaders have visited China. How many investments have these visits facilitated in China?” In response, spokesperson He Yadong stated that since 2026, leaders such as South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have led delegations to China, further deepening mutual understanding and trust, opening up broad prospects for bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and strengthening multinational companies’ confidence in investing in and deeply engaging with China. In 2025, South Korea’s investment in China’s manufacturing sector increased by 14.1%, Canada’s investment in high-tech industries in China grew by 11.7% year-on-year, Finland’s investment in manufacturing in China rose by 21.7% year-on-year, and the UK’s investment in China increased by 15.9% year-on-year. Recently, surveys from the China–Canada Business Council, China-EU Chamber of Commerce, China-UK Chamber of Commerce, and China-US Chamber of Commerce show that most multinational companies still regard China as a primary investment destination and continue to increase their investment efforts. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China will steadily move toward high-quality development, continuously expand high-level opening-up, and firmly uphold the multilateral trading system. It will strengthen mutually beneficial economic and trade relations with various countries, providing a positive outlook for the long-term development of foreign-invested enterprises in China. Moving forward, we will deepen reforms of the foreign investment promotion system and mechanisms, continue to expand institutional opening-up, optimize the business environment, accelerate the creation of new advantages to attract foreign investment, and make China’s vast market a global opportunity. We aim to encourage foreign enterprises to come, stay, and develop well, making them important participants in China’s modernization. (Jiemian News)
