On February 19th local time, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova stated that based on the results of the Russia-U.S. leaders’ phone call on December 28-29, 2025, Russia supports the U.S. proposal to establish a working group on security issues composed of representatives from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine. So far, this working group has held three rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi (January 23-24 and February 4-5) and Geneva (February 17-18). As for the effectiveness of U.S. mediation, Russia will judge based on the results of actions. Zakharova emphasized that if the Trump team persuades Ukraine to resolve the crisis through serious negotiations rather than war-mongering propaganda, Russia would welcome it. At the same time, Zakharova pointed out that the duality in the U.S. stance indeed raises questions. If the U.S. genuinely intends to act as a mediator, it should stop supplying one side of the conflict militarily. Only then will genuine and effective diplomatic opportunities emerge, which Russia’s Foreign Ministry has always advocated. (CCTV News)
