The Office of the State Council Safety Committee has decided to place on record and supervise the investigation of the major ship capsizing accident in Chuxiong, Yunnan on 2/17.

At approximately 3:40 PM on February 17th, a passenger vessel capsized at Lianhua Village, Xiaowu Village, Donghua Town, Chuxiong City, Yunnan Province. Twenty-six people fell into the water, resulting in four deaths. After the accident, the Ministry of Emergency Management demanded a prompt verification and clarification of the casualty numbers, full treatment of the injured, a thorough investigation of the cause, strict accountability, and serious pursuit of responsibility. The goal is to draw lessons from the incident and prevent similar accidents from happening again. The Office of the State Council Safety Committee has decided to implement a supervised investigation and handling of the case, requiring Yunnan Province to organize an escalated investigation in accordance with the “Four No Letting Go” principle, and to pursue accountability strictly according to law and regulations. The specific cause of the accident and follow-up work are still underway. (National Emergency Management Department)
