Sentient Foundation Officially Established: Committed to Promoting Open-Source AGI and Ensuring Its Benefits for All Humanity

Sentient Foundation officially announced its establishment on February 10th. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) remains open source, decentralized, and aligned with human interests.

As the competition for AGI accelerates, the foundation emerges at a critical turning point in AI development. The decisions we make today will directly determine whether this transformative technology serves all of humanity or becomes a tool of power in the hands of a few.

Core Challenge: AGI Must Not Be Monopolized by a Few Companies

Today, some of the most powerful foundational models (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Claude) are owned and controlled by private companies. This should not be the case. Technologies that are likely to define the future of humanity must not be locked behind corporate walls or driven by shareholder interests rather than social welfare.

But we still have reasons to remain optimistic. Models like DeepSeek and Qwen have demonstrated that open-source AI can match or even surpass closed-source solutions. The question is no longer whether open-source AI can compete, but whether we can build the infrastructure, community, and support systems necessary to ensure its ultimate victory.

This is the purpose of the Sentient Foundation: to empower researchers, developers, and organizations contributing to truly open-source AI, enabling everyone to utilize and participate in the development of open-source AGI.

• Governance framework: Coordinate and establish inclusive governance structures to develop AGI responsibly.

• Public advocacy: Actively promote open-source AGI as the right path to achieving beneficial AI through forums like the “Open AGI Summit.”

Linux powers the vast majority of servers worldwide; Apache supports most web services; Android has democratized mobile computing. Sentient Foundation believes that, given the importance of AGI, an open model is not only necessary but urgent.
