The Chinese stock exchange recently announced a series of significant changes to margin requirements and price limits for its precious metals futures contracts. The changes took effect after the market closed on February 9, 2026, according to the financial data platform Jin10.

Adjustments to Silver Price Limits

Silver futures experienced the largest adjustments among the two metals. The price limit for silver was expanded to 20%, a move that reflects the need to accommodate market volatility. At the same time, margin requirements were increased: covered positions now require 21%, and open positions 22%. These increases indicate a more conservative approach by the exchange in risk management for this specific contract.

Moderate Adjustments for Gold and Risk Control

Gold futures received slightly less severe adjustments. The price limit was set at 17%, with margins of 18% for protected positions and 19% for open positions. These modifications aim to strengthen the exchange’s ability to control excessive exposures and protect market participants from sharp price movements.

The exchange justifies these measures as essential to maintaining operational stability and providing more robust protection for its participants. Both gold and silver, commodities of strategic importance, receive special attention in the platform’s risk policies.
