Ethereum 2025 Technology Breakthroughs: How zkEVM and PeerDAS Drive the Construction of the "World Computer"?

Abstract generation in progress

【ChainNews】Ethereum delivered a solid report card in 2025. According to the latest insights from Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum made substantial progress across multiple dimensions this year—gas limits were increased, the number of blobs grew, indicating network capacity expansion; meanwhile, the quality of node software is being optimized, and zkEVM has achieved a performance milestone.

Among these, the progress of zkEVM and PeerDAS is particularly critical. Breakthroughs in these two technologies mark Ethereum’s step toward a new generation of more powerful blockchains. However, Vitalik also admits that Ethereum is still far from the finish line. To truly realize the grand vision—becoming the core infrastructure of a free and open internet, the so-called “world computer”—more efforts are needed.

What exactly is this vision? Simply put, it is to enable decentralized applications to operate in an environment free of fraud, censorship, and third-party interference. Even if the original developers disappear or centralized service providers like Cloudflare go down, these applications can still continue to function. That is true decentralization.

To achieve this goal, Ethereum needs to work on two levels simultaneously. One is the blockchain layer—including the optimization of software and communication protocols; the other is the application layer. Both need to see leaps in usability, scalability, and decentralization. This is a long-term, systematic project that won’t be accomplished overnight, but the direction is already very clear.

zkEVM performance has improved, but to be honest, it's still far from being a true world computer. Let's keep waiting.

zkEVM is bragging again? Let's talk about real implementation when it actually happens; for now, it's just on paper.

The breakthrough in zkEVM performance is real, but the dream of the "world computer" will have to wait a bit longer...

zkEVM is hyped again. I just want to know how much cheaper it can actually be in practice?

Can zkEVM break through this level? It still feels like a long way to go.

The performance breakthrough of zkEVM is indeed impressive, but we might have to wait a bit longer for PeerDAS to be implemented. The progress seems a bit slow.
