Apple Inc. (AAPL) announced a significant leadership restructuring in its artificial intelligence division, with Amar Subramanya stepping into the role of Vice President of AI, effective immediately. The transition marks a strategic shift as John Giannandrea, the company’s Senior Vice President for Machine Learning and AI Strategy, moves into an advisory capacity ahead of his retirement slated for spring 2026.

Subramanya brings substantial credentials to the position, having held senior AI positions at both Microsoft and Google. In his new capacity at Apple, he will oversee the development and implementation of Apple Foundation Models, spearhead machine learning research initiatives, and manage AI safety protocols and evaluation frameworks. His appointment reflects Apple’s commitment to maintaining momentum in its artificial intelligence investments.

The organizational restructuring extends beyond the top role. Portions of Giannandrea’s existing team will be distributed to Sabih Khan and Eddy Cue, creating better alignment between AI operations and complementary business units. This reconfiguration allows for enhanced collaboration across different teams while maintaining strategic continuity during the transition period.

Subramanya will report directly to Craig Federighi, underscoring the importance of AI development within Apple’s broader technology roadmap. This reporting structure ensures that AI initiatives remain tightly integrated with Apple’s core engineering and product development functions.

On Monday, Apple stock (AAPL) demonstrated market confidence in the announcement, closing at $283.10, reflecting a gain of $4.25 or 1.52 percent on the New York Stock Exchange. The market’s positive response suggests investor optimism regarding Apple’s AI strategic direction and leadership continuity.
