Performance Food Group Company (PFGC), a leading distributor and marketer of food products, has announced significant changes to its executive leadership structure, effective January 1, 2026. The food distribution company will transition Scott McPherson, who currently serves as Chief Operating Officer, into the role of Chief Executive Officer. Concurrently, George Holm, the incumbent CEO, will assume the position of Executive Chair of the Board of Directors.
According to Manuel A. Fernandez, who serves as the Board’s Lead Independent Director, the organization has conducted an extensive multi-year succession planning process to prepare for this executive transition. “Our Board has been deliberate and strategic in developing this leadership succession strategy,” Fernandez stated, adding that the move aligns with Performance Food Group’s long-term vision presented during the company’s 2025 Investor Day event held earlier this year.
The restructuring reflects a methodical approach to executive continuity at the food distribution company. By elevating McPherson, who brings operational expertise from his tenure as COO, Performance Food Group is leveraging internal talent development. Meanwhile, Holm’s transition to Executive Chair allows the company to retain his strategic guidance and experience in a chairperson capacity.
This leadership realignment at PFGC demonstrates the Board’s confidence in its management bench strength and underscores a well-coordinated plan to ensure seamless operations during the transition period.
