Leidos (LDOS) revealed Monday that Theodore Tanner Jr., formerly of BigBear.ai where he held the chief technology and strategy officer role, will assume the chief technology officer position effective Jan. 5, 2026. He replaces Jim Carlini, who has served in the CTO capacity since 2019 and previously signaled his intention to transition out of the position.

CEO Tom Bell praised the incoming executive, describing him as someone who blends creative thinking with operational rigor to tackle complex deep-technology obstacles. “Ted brings a strong background in rolling out innovative, transformative solutions across the defense, government, and healthcare sectors,” Bell stated. “His experience aligns perfectly with our technical capabilities and our NorthStar 2030 strategic roadmap.”

The company also acknowledged Carlini’s tenure, with Bell noting, “We’re grateful to Jim for establishing the technical infrastructure that has strengthened Leidos and bolstered security for the U.S. and allied nations.” Rather than departing entirely, Carlini will continue as senior advisor focusing on national security affairs under Bell’s direction.
