I've been watching the liquidation rankings closely these past couple of days and noticed something interesting.
With the same level of volatility, long positions are getting liquidated much harder than shorts. What does this indicate?
First—there's a crowded short-term long position. That's why the market has been dropping sharply lately; it's basically a cleanup, specifically targeting those gamblers who chase the pump and dump. That being said, after that washout on October 11, the scale of long liquidations now can't even compare to before. They've been harvested wave after wave, and most of the retail traders have been wiped out. Those who should've exited already have, and the ones left are the seasoned players. There's not much left to squeeze from the long side anymore.
Second—the real show might be on the short side. From a mid-term perspective, the grand liquidation of shorts has only just begun...

The long-term retail investors have already been mostly wiped out. Now we're just waiting for the short sellers to dump their positions. The real show is about to begin.

The bulls have already been squeezed quite a bit; next, the bears might be in trouble. This rhythm is interesting.

Hmm... is there nothing left for the bulls? Feels like the bears are the ones really preparing for a big move.

The bulls really took a beating this time, but is there really nothing left to gain? Isn't it a bit too soon to say that?

Oops, the bulls got wiped out badly this time. Looks like all the retail investors have really been cleared out. Next, it's the bears' turn to feast.

The bulls really can't squeeze any more out; now we're just waiting to see how the bears will meet their end.

All the bulls have been squeezed dry; now it's just a matter of how the bears will meet their end. This show is far from over.
