BlockBeatNews

BlockBeats message, April 5, according to a report from the U.S. National Broadcasting Company News channel’s website on April 3, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf appears to have threatened to disrupt commercial shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the key passage in the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

According to the report, Qalibaf posted on the social platform X, saying: “How many shares of oil, liquefied natural gas, wheat, rice, and fertilizer shipments will have to pass through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait?” He then wrote: “Which countries and companies account for the largest share of cargo volumes transported through that strait?”

In recent years, vessels traveling through the area have repeatedly been attacked by the Yemeni Houthi armed group allied with the Iranian regime. The threat to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait was issued at a time when Iran has already to a large extent cut off shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has thrown the global economy into chaos.
