According to 1M AI News monitoring, GPT Image 2 has switched in ChatGPT from A/B testing to full routing, and all image generation requests have been forwarded to the new model; some accounts may still not be covered. OpenAI has not issued any announcements about this yet.
Yesterday, LMArena (a community ranking platform that evaluates AI models via blind tests) briefly appeared with three anonymous image models codenamed maskingtape-alpha, gaffertape-alpha, and packingtape-alpha; the community widely speculates that they are candidate test versions of GPT Image 2.
Community testing shows that the three models surpass Google Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image) in world knowledge richness and text rendering, but they still fall short in spatial reasoning—image reasoning tests using a standard of a cube with mirrored reflections have not been passed.
