Golden Finance reports that on March 24, Spanish authorities arrested a suspect related to the kidnapping case of Ledger co-founder David Balland in January 2025, marking a significant development in one of Europe’s high-profile cryptocurrency-related kidnapping cases. The Spanish Guardia Civil confirmed that the arrest took place in Benalmádena, in the southern province of Málaga, under a European arrest warrant issued by France.
The 24-year-old suspect is accused of participating in the kidnapping and torture of Balland, during which the kidnappers extorted a ransom of 10 million euros (approximately $11.5 million).
Balland was abducted from his home in central France on January 21, 2025, and was held captive for about 48 hours before being successfully rescued by French elite police forces. His wife was found tied up in a car in southern Paris. Reports indicate that the kidnappers cut off one of Balland’s fingers and sent a dismemberment video to his business partners to pressure them into paying the ransom.
