BITGIN女神涉洗錢1.5億台幣

Taiwan Cryptocurrency Exchange BITGIN Suspected of Money Laundering Officially Indicted on March 13, 10 People Involved. The main defendants are known as the “Virtual Currency Goddess,” BITGIN Operations Manager Zhang Yuting, and her brother Zhang Hansen, who is the CEO. The two are suspected of using legitimate exchanges to conceal money laundering for a scam group, totaling 150 million yuan. Prosecutors seek 12 years in prison for each.

Involved Roles: The 10 Defendants in BITGIN’s Money Laundering Network

According to the indictment, the involved personnel form a complete division of labor:

Liu Yusen: Actual person in charge of BITGIN, suspected of recruiting the Zhang siblings to lead exchange operations, facing 8 years.

Zhang Hansen and Zhang Yuting: Siblings, CEO and COO, suspected of opening accounts on Binance in 2021, providing scam group members with large amounts of Tether (USDT). Both face 12 years.

Hu Chongxian: Suspected of transferring funds to fake coin traders. Co-conspirator You Shaoyu provided TRX tokens as transaction fees.

Lawyer Zheng Hongwei: Suspected of leaking investigation information while defending scam operatives. Another scam member, Huang Xinyou, transferred 180,000 yuan in cash to his personal wallet as legal fees, involving him in money laundering.

Mechanism of the Case: Multiple Money Flow Breakpoints and Interference from Overseas Accounts

The indictment reveals that the scam group posted ads on social media to lure people to download fake investment apps. After victims hand over cash, USDT is transferred to overseas exchanges. To hinder law enforcement, Hu Chongxian and others frequently transferred over 3.76 million USDT from June to September 2023, crossing multiple crypto wallets to create multiple money flow breakpoints.

This case is also closely related to the Taiwan “88 Club” money laundering case involving Tu Chengwen. Tu established Yangsheng Group to handle up to 247.6 billion yuan in underground currency exchanges. Zhang Yuting is suspected to be a core operator, earning a monthly salary of 100,000 yuan.

Highly Ironic: A Top Student from NCCU Teaching Criminal Investigation Becomes a Scam Accomplice

Zhang Yuting’s personal background is the most lamented aspect of this case. She is a top student from National Chengchi University, self-taught due to her strong interest in cryptocurrencies, proficient in cross-chain technology, and able to reduce transaction fees effectively. With this expertise, she was not only employed by Yangsheng Group but also invited to teach at the Criminal Investigation Bureau, guiding police on how to trace and investigate crypto flows.

The indictment states that she ultimately used her technical skills to help criminals hide illegal gains, becoming a key operator in the scam group’s crypto money flow.
