Q1: What is Polymarket?

Polymarket is a trading market based on event outcomes. Users trade YES/NO contracts to express their expectations about future events and may earn profits once the event outcome is confirmed.

Q2: What is the relationship between Gate and Polymarket?

Gate has partnered with Polymarket to offer polymarkets, becoming the first centralized exchange (CEX) to integrate Polymarket. Polymarket provides the event markets, matching engine, and settlement mechanism, while Gate provides the trading interface and account system. Users can participate directly using their Gate accounts without any on-chain operations.

Q3: What are the advantages of participating in Polymarket on Gate?

Compared with on-chain prediction markets:

  • No gas is needed to trade on polymarket: Participate directly using your Gate account
  • Trade with spot USDT: No need to bridge assets or perform on-chain transactions
  • Simplified trading experience: Complete order and position management

Compared with complex derivatives:

  • You only need to judge whether an event will occur
  • No advanced trading knowledge is required

Q4: What login and funding methods are supported?

Gate supports two participation methods:
Method 1: Gate account login

  • Log in with your Gate account
  • Funds are deducted from your spot account in USDT
  • No on-chain operations required
  • Suitable for users who prefer a simple experience

Method 2: Wallet login

  • Log in using a Web3 wallet
  • Use USDC on the Polygon network
  • Funds are settled on-chain
  • Suitable for users familiar with blockchain operations

Q5: How do I participate in trading?

Participation is very simple:

  1. Select a Polymarket event
  2. Choose YES or NO
  3. Enter the amount and confirm the order
  4. You may sell at any time or hold until settlement
  5. Prices fluctuate in real time based on market supply and demand

Q6: What does the price on Polymarket represent?

The price represents the market's expectation of the probability that an event will occur. For example, the YES price is 0.65. This implies the market estimates a 65% probability that the event will happen.

Q7: How can I make a profit in Polymarket?

Method 1: Hold until settlement

  • If your prediction is correct, each contract settles at 1 USDT
  • Profit per contract = 1 – purchase price
  • If your prediction is incorrect, the contract value becomes 0

Method 2: Trade price movements

  • If market sentiment changes and prices rise:
  • Buy at a lower price
  • Sell at a higher price
  • You do not need to wait for the final result

Q8: When does the market settle?

Each market has clearly defined rules and settlement conditions. Once the event outcome is confirmed, the system automatically settles the market. Contracts on the correct side are settled at a 1:1 ratio with the stablecoin.

Q9: How does Polymarket settlement work?

The settlement rules are simple:

  • Correct side for a contract → 1 share = 1 USDT
  • Incorrect side for a contract → value = 0

After settlement, funds are automatically returned to your spot account.

Q10: Can I sell at any time?

Yes. While trading is open, you may:

  • Sell partially
  • Sell all positions
  • Continue holding your position

However, once the market closes for trading, buying or selling will no longer be possible, and you must wait for settlement.

Q11: Are trading fees charged?

Trading fees apply. Both taker and maker trades are charged at 0.8% of the transaction amount. The fee is deducted separately in USDT from your spot account. For details regarding Polymarket's base fees, please refer to the official documentation.

Q12: Can I participate using a Web3 wallet?

Yes. Users can choose between:

  1. Exchange account login (USDT)
  2. Web3 wallet login (Polygon USDC)

Q13: What types of events will Polymarket include?

Polymarket markets may include: crypto industry events, price milestones, major sports events, technology or industry developments, important market trends, etc. New event markets will be launched continuously.

Q14: Why do prices change constantly?

Prices are determined by market supply and demand. When more users buy one side, the price of that side will increase.

Q15: Can I buy both YES and NO?

Yes. Some users may hold both sides simultaneously as part of hedging or short-term trading strategies.

Q16: Is Polymarket suitable for beginners?

Yes. Compared with options or futures trading, Polymarket only requires you to predict whether an event will occur.

Q17: What risks are involved in participating in Polymarket?

Key risks include:

  • Loss of principal if your prediction is incorrect
  • Floating losses caused by market volatility
  • Certain events may enter delayed settlement due to disputes

Please manage your position sizes carefully and avoid high-risk trading.

Q18: What happens if there is a dispute over the event outcome?

Every market entails clearly defined data sources and settlement rules. In the event of a dispute, the market may undergo a delayed settlement process until the result is confirmed. Please refer to the official documentation for detailed handling procedures.

Q19: Will new markets continue to be launched?

Yes. Gate will continue to introduce new polymarkets for users to trade.

Q20: How is the price determined?

  • Prices are determined by market supply and demand
  • The more users buy YES, the higher the YES price
  • The more users buy NO, the higher the NO price
  • In essence, the price reflects the collective market assessment of probability
