India conducts a population census again after 15 years, collecting caste information amid controversy

India launches a nationwide census on April 1. This census, conducted after 15 years, will collect controversial caste information, which has been criticized by public opinion for potentially intensifying social conflicts. The Indian government has decided to conduct a comprehensive survey of most of the population across the country within approximately one year, deploying about 3 million census officials, and collecting information and data through on-site household visits and electronic methods. The census will be conducted in two phases: the first phase focuses on basic housing and related information, while the second phase includes personal details such as caste and economic status.
