According to XPeng Motors, on March 13, Volkswagen and XPeng Motors (XPEV.US) officially started mass production of their first jointly developed model, the ID.8, at Volkswagen Anhui as scheduled. It took only 24 months from signing the joint development technical cooperation agreement to mass production.
It is introduced that the ID.8 is Volkswagen’s first full-time interconnected pure electric full-size SUV, jointly developed by Volkswagen and XPeng, tailored specifically for the Chinese market demand. In terms of intelligent driving, the ID.8 will be equipped with XPeng’s VLA full-scenario intelligent driving assistance system and Turing AI chip as standard, with 1500 TOPs of intelligent driving computing power, capable of achieving enhanced L2 level assisted driving. Based on the vehicle project cooperation, XPeng Motors and Volkswagen jointly developed China’s first local regional control electronic and electrical architecture—CEA (China Electronic Architecture)—for the Volkswagen Group in China. As the “smart brain” of the new generation of intelligent connected vehicles, CEA will be applied to domestically produced models of all power types of Volkswagen. The first model equipped with the CEA electronic and electrical architecture is planned to be launched this year.
