Turkey’s presidential palace issued a statement on the 4th, denying that it has supplied weapons to Iran, and calling the relevant rumors on social media “smear propaganda.” In the statement, the News Directorate Strike Against Fake Information Center at Turkey’s presidential palace said that in recent days some social media accounts and fake information websites have fabricated rumors claiming that Turkey is providing Iran with modern air defense anti-missile systems and drones. The rumors also claim that Iran’s recent shootdown of a U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter jet was carried out using Turkey-made man-portable, portable air-defense missiles. The statement said these false claims are “psychological warfare” and “smear propaganda,” intended to “undermine Turkey’s constructive role in regional crises.” The statement said that the source of these rumors is “obvious.” Turkey has long had strained relations with Israel over regional affairs such as the issue of Palestine and Israel, and the statement’s thrust is clearly aimed at Israel.
