【Caixin Global】 At the Boao Forum for Asia 2026 Annual Conference, Hu Zuliu, founder and chairman of the Primavera Capital Group, said that in China’s capital markets, discussions about IPOs are lively, while M&A deals are not very active, yet not enough attention is being paid. He suggested that increasing the activity level of M&A transactions would help make the capital markets more complete.

On March 27, Hu Zuliu shared these views during a discussion session themed “Creating a Favorable Market Environment and Advocating Long-Term Value Investing.” He specifically noted that the major predicament China’s economy is facing today is the so-called “involution” and excess capacity. In fact, one very effective way to absorb excess capacity is through M&A, and a highly active M&A market can drive industry consolidation.
