Abstract generation in progress

At Friday dawn Beijing time, American tech company Google announced the launch of the new generation image generation model Nano Banana 2, making high-quality image creation faster, cheaper, and easier.

As background, Google first released Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash image model) at the end of August last year. Due to its super realistic character consistency, outstanding natural language understanding, and 3D modeling capabilities, it sparked worldwide enthusiasm and firmly established Google’s position in AI applications.

In November last year, Google launched Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro image model), allowing users to generate more detailed, higher-quality images with “studio-level creative control.”

According to Google, Nano Banana 2 (i.e., Gemini 3.1 Flash image model) combines the image quality, reasoning ability, and advanced world knowledge of Nano Banana Pro with the “lightning-fast generation speed” of the Flash model.

This means a series of features previously exclusive to the “Pro” series models are now available in the basic version. Nano Banana 2 also supports up to 5 characters with consistent appearances and faithful rendering of 14 objects. The improved natural language understanding enables the model to more accurately capture subtle differences in complex prompts, resulting in images that better match the intended ideas.

The new generation product supports various aspect ratios and up to 4K resolution, providing more vivid lighting, richer textures, and clearer details.

The precise text rendering and multilingual translation capabilities of the Pro image model are also inherited. Previously, these features were limited to Gemini subscription users. With Nano Banana 2 launched, free Gemini users can now access these features as well.

According to Arena.ai, the “Big Model Arena,” Nano Banana 2 immediately topped the text-to-image ranking after its release. At the same time, the cost per image is only $0.067, about half of Nano Banana Pro.

Starting today, Nano Banana 2 has become the default image model in Google Gemini, as well as in the search and video editing tools Flow. The Nano Banana 2 model will replace the Nano Banana Pro option in Gemini’s Fast, Thinking, and Pro generation features.
