Peter Schiff states that the best trade in 2025 is to sell Bitcoin and buy silver, as the precious metals bull market is just beginning?

Economist Peter Schiff posted on December 26th that one of the most profitable trades in 2025 is “selling Bitcoin and buying silver.” He attributes this to the disappointment of the “crypto Christmas” expectations and the market reality of “precious metals taking off.”

Peter Schiff has always been critical of Bitcoin, expressing negative views on multiple occasions. For example, he has called Bitcoin a bubble, a “modern tulip mania,” and believes it will not become a means of trade.

In his view, the so-called “digital gold” narrative for Bitcoin is being tested by the market, while real value still resides in traditional precious metals. Physical assets like precious metals (especially silver) are gaining more solid support, with their upward potential being relatively predictable and the risk of decline significantly lower than the highly volatile Bitcoin.

Peter Schiff believes that the bull market for gold and silver has just begun, and any buying activity is expected to provide strong momentum. This view has attracted market attention because gold and silver performed relatively well in 2025, repeatedly reaching new interim highs.

Additionally, Peter Schiff once said that when Bitcoin’s price reaches $100,000, it would be a rare and excellent exit point, urging holders to sell early. This view is highly consistent with his criticism of Bitcoin in other contexts.

However, Schiff’s comments have sparked widespread rebuttal within the crypto community, with some users emphasizing a long-term perspective of five to ten years for Bitcoin. Opponents generally believe that Bitcoin’s value comes from its global consensus as a scarce store of value and a decentralized, programmable value transfer network, with its worth derived from immutable network effects and ongoing institutional recognition, rather than simply its safe-haven properties.

In summary, the core of this debate is a long-term contest between two fundamentally different value narratives and investment philosophies. Schiff represents the traditional financial world’s faith in physical assets, intrinsic value, and stability; while the crypto community advocates for a future financial paradigm driven by digitization, decentralization, and technology. As ordinary investors, it is essential to weigh various factors comprehensively and make independent, rational investment decisions.
