) Looking Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities in the Intelligent Interaction of Web3
In June, Paradigm published an article titled "Intent-Based Architectures and Their Risks" on its official website, introducing the concept of Intent( to the public for the first time. The related intent protocols and infrastructure developed rapidly and became a hot topic in the crypto world at the ETHCC conference in July.
Intent is not a completely new concept. As Mindao, the founder of DForce, stated, the crypto space has been striving to abstract and automate operations, with efforts focused on aggregators, centralized exchanges, contract wallets, and cross-chain DeFi. Recent developments in Chainlink, automated middleware, and Telegram bots are also working in a similar direction.
However, the intention has brought new changes. In the past, the core was product interaction, while in the AGI era, the core is human-computer interaction. AI/LLM) large language model( contains great potential for enhancing encrypted interaction experiences.

01. Comparison between Anoma Top-Down and Unibot Bottom-Up
In the past half year, protocols, projects, and infrastructures related to intent have gradually gained popularity. Here, we will explore the overall picture through two typical cases.
Although there are many projects related to intent, the most notable is the Anoma Foundation, which completed a $25 million Series C funding round at the end of May 2023. Against the backdrop of severe homogeneity in Layer 1, the Anoma Foundation has secured a total of $57.8 million in three rounds of funding with its intent-centric ) Anoma architecture ( Dapp full-stack architecture ) and Namada ( privacy Layer 1), ranking 7th in terms of funding amount for non-token Layer 1/Layer 2.
Reflecting on Anoma's presentation at EthCC, founder Adrian Brink stated that Anoma's uniqueness lies in the fact that all interactions begin with intent. The user's expressed intent is processed through Anoma's black box architecture (, also known as the magic box ), to realize the core transaction process based on intent-driven interactions.
Behind this brand new form of interaction, the Anoma team has insight into the underlying pain points of blockchain protocols. They reviewed the evolution from Bitcoin's scriptable settlement to Ethereum's programmable settlement, pointing out that the limitations of the current application protocol architecture require at least one Web2 component, making it impossible to achieve counterparty discovery and resolution. Anoma believes that an intent-centric architecture is the third generation Dapp architecture in the evolution of blockchain protocols, allowing users to define the desired outcome state and achieve efficient and customizable privacy transactions at the intent level.
Anoma, with its high financing and innovative technological architecture, is currently being built by a multidisciplinary team of 37 members from the Heliax development team. Over the past two years, Heliax has made slow progress, but has already formed a complete innovative ecosystem:
Although many institutions such as CMCC Global, Electric Capital, and Delphi Digital are enthusiastically promoting Anoma and believe that the intention-centric architecture has unlimited future potential, the current top-down approach has only laid a good technical foundation, and we have yet to see exciting real-world applications.
At the same time, the TG Bot has opened up the imaginative space for the implementation of Intent segmentation scenarios through on-chain automated trading tools.
Unibot is a Telegram-based trading bot (TG Bot) that allows users to perform automated DEX trading via Telegram, offering features such as sniper buying, copy trading, DEX limit orders, privacy, and anti-MEV. Unibot simplifies the cumbersome interactions of Uniswap based on Intent, providing a convenient DeFi experience. Unibot has also spawned a batch of TG Bot clones, and the total market capitalization of the TG Bot sector has approached 200 million dollars.
Top-down Anoma is a revolution, while bottom-up TG Bot is a transformation. Anoma starts from an intent-based underlying architecture, but the team's progress is slow; TG Bot, although it provides users with a brand new on-chain interaction interface, is not intelligent and has many security risks.
These two different approaches have a common goal - to simplify the user interaction experience and introduce a new programmable and customizable user interaction interface - User Intent Layer(用户意图层). This allows users to bypass complex on-chain operations and directly define transaction status based on intent.
02, AI Becomes the New UI: Command Interaction vs. Intent Interaction
The above two cases give us a basic understanding of intent. Next, we will explore the changes brought about by AI behind the intent at the most fundamental level of the cryptocurrency world - the transformation of user interfaces.
The AI paradigm is introducing a third user interface paradigm in the history of computing, shifting towards a new interaction mechanism where users tell the computer what they want, rather than how to do it.
Every revolution in interaction modes throughout history generates entirely new business models. LLM-based generative AI has brought disruptive changes to human-computer interaction, directly transforming the original software UI interaction into an interaction with the Chatgpt chat window, which is an unprecedented experience. The combination of LLM and cryptographic technology introduces a new proposition of intention-based interaction to the crypto world, and LLM has the potential to make blockchain interactions smarter by discovering and describing user intentions.
03. The Evolution of the Concept of Intent, Interaction Paradigms, Current Status and Trends
After deeply understanding the trend of AI intelligence behind intent, we further explore the evolution of the concept of intent. Intent is not a new concept; it has existed since the Web2 era. With the rise of search engines like Google, users can input their intent, and the search engines provide relevant results to satisfy that intent.
With the rise of e-commerce platforms like Amazon and eBay, there has been a significant shift in intent-based architecture. Users can now express their intent to purchase products, while the platform is responsible for logistics. In early 2017, Gartner released a report titled "Innovation Insight: Intent-Based Networking Systems" which formally introduced the concept of Intent-based Networking(. The key is to present users with an interface where they only need to express what they want, and the platform will handle the business details.
Intent-based networking is the development trend of network automation and intelligence in the Web2 era. Gartner Research Vice President Andrew Lerner pointed out in 2017 that intent-based networking will be the next milestone in the field of networking.
In the evolution from Web2 to Web3, the concept of intent in Web3 is not very clear, but there are some common understandings:
In Web3 intent-based transaction instances, users create intents off-chain, outsource them to parsers, encapsulating the complexity of blockchain interactions while maintaining complete on-chain control over the process, thereby lowering the thresholds for on-chain interactions.
The intent also brings the concept of LLM architecture - intent-centric ) architecture centered around user intent (. Currently, the crypto protocols and infrastructure related to intent-centric are embedded in the interaction layer between users and the crypto world, leveraging LLM to provide a better on-chain interaction experience.
The combination of LLM and cryptographic technology brings a new paradigm of human-computer interaction, allowing user intentions to be directly converted into smart contract calls. Users only need to express their intentions like using Apple’s Siri, and the robot/AI agent/third-party parser can help complete complex on-chain operations. In the future, intent-based Web3 interaction intelligence has the potential to greatly reduce the complexity of user on-chain interactions.
AI has become the new UI, and more and more Web3 projects are exploring the power of intent. Whether it’s intent-based Dapps or intent-based underlying architecture, they are unleashing the potential of intent from different angles. We aim to organize this rapidly developing field and categorize it into four major areas from an interaction perspective while tracking the latest status and trends:
Infrastructure ) Intent-Centric Architecture Layer (:
Supporting facilities ) related to intent and related to account abstract wallets supporting infrastructure (:
Enterprise application ) integration Dapp's intent infrastructure, API, modular intent layer, domain-specific parser (:
