Honestly, I was also surprised to see cat-themed meme coins start to explode in the crypto market today. For the past few years, it’s all about dogs, dogs, dogs, Doge, Shiba Inu dominating the scene, but now suddenly cats are taking over. A month ago, 8 of the top 10 meme coins were still dog-themed, but that’s changed now.
The turning point was when MEW (Cat in a Dogs World) launched on March 26th. Just 48 hours later, it hit a $200 million market cap, and after 8 days, it reached $644 million. It surpassed BONK, WIF, PEPE to become the fastest-growing meme coin. Then there was MOEW on Base, where a trader made $2 million from just $13,000 in one hour. That’s how these cat-themed meme coins started making waves.
MEW increased by 267% in 7 days, but now it’s slowed down, dropping over 15% yesterday. Today, in the crypto market, MEW is around $0.00737, with trading volume down 35%. It seems the hype is starting to cool off. But the interesting part is that the community has begun paying attention to this trend, with many new cat tokens constantly appearing, some even making it into the top 10 within just a few hours. HOBBES, inspired by the trader Ansem’s cat, also surpassed $100 million in market cap on its launch day.
However, some people are wondering whether these whales are making profits through strategic trading or if they have insider information from the project team. Either way, the cat-themed meme coins have proven their potential in the market. From a niche, they are turning into a phenomenon. I’m just curious how long this trend will last.
